RFP: 1. Request for proposal. 2. Highly abusive system in which companies ask suppliers to submit ideas, usually via email and without ever meeting; blanket communication from procurement department that is desperately trawling the market for cost comparisons and ideas, with little or no intention of ever awarding a contract; a nasty process best avoided by all.
